Democratic Primary: The Final Round Begins Despite the fact that Hillary is all but defeated in the primary election, she keeps on fighting. Is it pride? Is it some sense in her mind that she can still win? Rumors are circulating that she'll be given one more chance to concede defeat and take on a prominent position in Obama's cabinet, but will she take the offer or keep on fighting? Technically, Hillary could still pull out a last minute victory. Regardless of what happens in Montana and South Dakota, the final decision could be made by the super-delegates. The Florida and Michigan half-vote compromise isn't what Clinton was hoping for, but it definitely keeps her in the game for a few more days. If, somehow, she can win-over (buy-out?) every single super-delegate left unpledged, she will pull off one of the most ruthless, cut-throat political victories of modern America.
The fact she is even in the competition at this point, despite the will of the voters shows how skillfully she can manipulate a political system or even apply brute force when necessary. Could this great show of strength prove her "electability" ... despite her lack of popularity? Voters might be sick of the negativity, but we're still impressed by the ability of people who can get things done against all odds...
Obama's apparent offer to Hillary would involve her concession in exchange for a top-level position, likely as the lead role on healthcare reform or a similar project. This is not just an olive-branch for the Clinton camp Democrats, its also a wink and a nudge to the insurance companies who would have benefitted massively from Hillary's original proposal. On another note, its possibly a jab at her prior failed attempt to change heathcare in the 90s.
I think Hillary will fight it out to the end. Her campaign has been a long time in the planning, and no good leader quits at the last moment when victory is about to be determined, not so long as there is a small chance of winning.
Me? I would take Obama's job offer. She might not need the money but I sure do!
