Hillary Clinton Wins Michigan Primary! |

Tuesday, 09 October 2007 |
Shortly after Senators John Edwards and Barak Obama announced they would follow the national party line and withdraw from Michigan's unauthorized primary, Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic is reporting that a Hillary Clinton staffer is stating that she will NOT withdraw from the Michigan primary herself. This afternoon's developments should leave no one questioning who holds the power in the Democratic party. Second and third place front-runners Edwards and Obama have now all but given their concession speech. While they continue to issue weak verbal attacks against Clinton, they appear to be dedicated to securing the nomination for her.
Now, by January 15th 2008, Hillary Clinton will have secured at least one state nomination by a result that will probably approach 100%. Regardless of whether or not the national Democratic party accepts this early primary result is unsure; but the media buzz and sense of momentum will be a major factor in the following primaries. Considering Hillary's power in the Democratic party, it is quite likely that she will get the "national party leadership" to count it or not, as she sees fit. (I put that in quotes because Clinton IS the Democratic Party Leadership.) In recent elections, the first few primary elections have determined the nomination. Howard Dean had led the entire buildup to the primary, but after a weak showing in the first few states, he had been written off before all the votes were counted. With Michigan attempting to move its primary closer and closer to the start of the process, Hillary's uncontested win puts her on a safe road to the 2008 General Elections (as if there was any doubt).
