Karl Rove Resigns

President Bush's Aid, Advisor, and longtime friend Karl Rove has announced his intention to resign his position in the administration.  The move was apparently catalyzed by an effort to drum up loyalty within the Administration. It has been reported that some elements of the Bush cabinet were pushing for staff to commit to serving the duration of the presidency.

With Bush's popularity levels near the all-time low and public support in the government in general waning, we may expect to see a few more high level positions vacated in the next two weeks.  Young, ambitious politicians within the cabinet will surely be seeking out top campaign advisory roles in hopes of returning to the executive branch in 2009 in the case of a Republican victory.

Rove will, no doubt, be setting up something behind the scenes for this election, if he has not begun so already.  It seems as though since the spotlight has been turned toward him in Congress and in the media, he has been less effectual in orchestrating his public relations campaigns.  While he may be seeking some refuge from popular scrutiny, he may realize how much of his secrecy was built through an abusive interpretation of executive priveledge that will no longer protect him.

I expect a conviction, a pardon, and then to find out in 2011 exactly how Rove influenced the 2008 elections.
