NBC/MSNBC: The Left-Wing of the Military/Media Complex E-mail
Wednesday, 31 October 2007

Someone online asked:  "Where does Keith Olbermann get his 'talking points'?"  And immediately I thought:  Follow the money!

  • Who writes his pay-checks and pockets the profit? MSNBC
  • Who's the parent company?  General Electric
  • What do they sell?  Appliances, nuclear electronics, rockets, "environmental" lightbulbs & biofuel, wind energy, and medical equipment.
  • Who buys nuclear electronics, rockets, bio-fuel & "green energy", and medical equipment?

Well, GE gets more federal contracts than any other company...but its not just about making "green" energy more cost effective:

"All parties will come together and project the Department of Defense's (DOD's) requirements [for military components].  GE will take the identified requirements and commence production."

Weird, huh?  The company that hired him has a vested financial interest in war - but then again it has a vested interest in "greenwashing" (phony environmentalism), selling insurance, medical equipment and nuclear technology (to the Chinese under Clinton, oh king of ironies).

I don't know what to conclude yet, but its an interesting trail.  Let's see what the CEOs of the network are donating:

Mr. Jeff Immelt, Exec. Chairman, Chief Exec. Officer and Member of Public Responsibilities Committee

  • $3,000 on 05/22/03 to Senator Patrick Leahy, a Democratwho "threatened on Monday to pursue contempt charges against the White House"
  • $250 on 05/13/02 to then virtually unknown Senator John Francis (Jack) Reed, a Democrat who lists healthcare, environment & alternative fuel, and "Enhancing our Security and Advancing America's Interests."  Among his accomplishments, he states:  Senator Reed has also worked tirelessly to provide our troops with the equipment they need.
  • $1,000 on 12/15/03 to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who has been busy channeling money into insurance, medical expenses, alternative energy while attacking George Bush and Rush Limbaugh in the press
  • $1,000 on 10/19/04 to former Senator Tom Daschle who lost his seat in 2004.  MSNBC is glad to report that he's back into politics, helping Obama now.

Oh, but that's not it.  No, I've saved the best contributions for last.  You see, even though Mr. Immelt sponsored Leahy, Jack Reed, Harry Reid, and Daschle, the vast majority of his campaign financing is directed toward Republicans.

  • $1,000  on 10/18/99 (when the candidate was virtually unknown), $2,000 on 12/10/03, AND $2,000 on 09/17/04, to George W. Bush.
  • $27,000 to other Republican candidates and committees

Other than common sponsorship here, the key theme seems to be an uncanny ability to spend taxpayer money on questionable projects - and looking foolish while doing it.  I might dig up some more CEO donations in companies that have big government contracts and News/Media interests at stake, but for tonight, I'll leave it with the "Public Responsibilities" Director at the nation's #1 corporate welfare recipient and self-proclaimed "America's News Leader."

If you're interested in GE's political income / sponsorship, this related article might help shed a little more light on where the company's loyalties are... (hint: $$$)
