Decades after the cold-war space race is over, China sees no reason to hesitate when it comes to advancing their own space program. In 2008, they have scheduled their third manned orbital mission; and this one is going to include an out-side the capsule space walk. Also planned for this year: 17 more satellites. Japan is trying to shape up as a rival to the new Chinese space industry, but China has quite the head start. Some security analysts are bothered by the potential effect of Chinese rocket and satellite capabilities: If weaponized, Beijing has the capability to locate and disarm U.S. satellites with targetted ICBMs. China is also looking to build its reputation and public image prior to the Olympics in Beijeing, although they denied the space mission had any connection to this motive when questioned by CNN.
