Isolating Iran

Once is an accident, twice gets suspicious, but the third time an undersea cable is cut people start asking serious questions about what's going on.

The report is floating around now that Iran has been virtually cut off from the internet - interesting 'coincidence' huh?  Some Iranian domains seem to still be online and the news on this entire event has been incredibly mixed.  Reports have suggested sluggish connectivity all across Asia, but some anecdotal evidence from a friend who works with India online says that there haven't been any problems or slowdowns over the last few days.  BBC reported that a lot of traffic has been re-routed through the U.S. and the U.K. - and at the very least this would give intelligence gathering agencies access to a lot of digital data!

Cutting Iran off from Chinese Cash

In a related(?) development, Tehran has announced that Chinese banks are cutting back business with Iran.  China has delivered mixed signals over Iran, indicating that they would like to expand business interests there, but conceding that they would not do so if it threatens China's relationship with America.

Russia recently took a more beligerant stance, threatening to use nuclear weapons in the defense of any threatened allies.  Iran's admission that China is cutting back financial ties is bad news for Russia, because it shows China is likely to take America's side in the event of a major conflict.
